Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa
constituency, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has accused all MPs in the Ashanti
Region of failing the people in the area.
The former NPP MP is unhappy that despite having a huge presence in
Parliament, the MPs have not been able to make their numbers felt by
tabling before the House for discussions, some decisions by government
that have not inured to the benefit of the residents they represent.
He cited the decision to pilot capitation of the National Health
Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Ashanti Region as one of government’s
intentions to punish people in the area, and bemoaned the lack of will
by NPP MPs drawn from the Ashanti region to kick against the idea.
Indicting his former colleagues on Adom FM, ‘Kofi Ghana,’ as the former
Kumasi Mayor is affectionately called, also slammed the Mahama
administration for discriminating against people in the area by
“imposing that stupid thing” on them.
He dared the president to also pilot the scheme in the Volta Region if
the NDC truly believes it has the best of intentions in rolling out the
initiative piece-meal.
“I am happy Wontumi (Ashanti Region Chairman of the NPP) has come out
forcefully on this subject. This is because our (NPP) members of
parliament in the Ashanti region have failed us….Again President Mahama,
his government and all his collaborators are not working according to
the constitution. They are being discriminatory…how they can impose such
a thing on the people in the region…that stupid thing (pilot capitation
of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS))…Why can’t Mahama
practice this in his party’s stronghold? The MPs should be hungry.
Lawless country…!” Kofi Jumah screamed.
