General Overseer of Action Chapel International Archbishop Nicholas
Duncan Williams has expressed worry over the partisan labeling of
religious leaders for praying for the various political parties.
Sometimes it saddens my heart when you pray for the government of the day and you are misrepresented.
They have to tag you as if when they also come into power, they expect you not to pray for them” he said.
Addressing some businessmen at a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, Duncan
Williams stated that prayers and intercession ought to be made for all
irrespective of their political and religious background.
“It is mandatory that we pray and intercede for all men. It
does not matter what political party you belong to it is a scripture
command.
The church is divided today, men of God are divided and there are some
who believe in praying for the government of the day and some who
believe in praying against the government of the day,” he added.
He emphasized the importance of prayer for the maintenance of peace by
saying “I understand that peace is not the absence of conflict or
tension by the presence of justice, but as long as scripture is
concerned, ladies and gentlemen let’s get it right, there is nowhere in
the Bible that we are given a prescription for peace outside of prayer.
The prescription for peace according to scripture is prayer.”
He said that in praying for those in authority “who make decisions for
nations, we will find peace and quietness and tranquility because peace
is not a commodity.”
According to him, “you don’t debate, insult and fight each other for
peace because peace comes as a result of acknowledging the source and
the author of peace.”
“The prince of peace is the only one who guarantees peace for any
community, people, nations and individual that is why we need to pray.
