WE WANT DATE FOR FLAGBEARER ELECTION NOW -Aspiring NPP Chairman writes to Jake

As aspiring 1st National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Michael Omare Wadie, has drawn the attention of the National Executive Committee of the party to the danger that party could be confronted with if it decides to fix a date for the holding of presidential primary after the election of national executives in March.

In a letter to Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Chairman of the party, Mr Wadie therefore called for the immediate resolution of tentative dates for the election of the presidential candidate of the party for the 2016 elections.

Michael Omari Wadie, a former Chairman for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, explains that it would be prudent for the National Executive Committee of the party to come out now with the date for the election of new flag-bearer or alternatively serve notice for the election.

He explains that the NPP constitution requires the party to serve a six-month notice to all possible candidates before Presidential primaries are held.

According to him, “if we wait till March 2014 to fix the date for the said primaries, we will be subjecting ourselves to 12 month of acrimony, noisy debates and disagreements, etc. We need to shorten the time for our internal election and have more time or focus on the 2016 general election.”

He further adds that “as a political party in opposition, we need to spend more time planning and strategizing instead of acrimony and destroying each other at such a crucial time in our nation's development.”

Mr Omari Wadie called on Jake and his team to as a matter of urgency fix the date and time for the presidential primary “which I suggest should be a month or two after the national executive elections.”
