President John Dramani Mahama has said nation-building can either be smooth or turbulent.
The president, therefore, has called for a collaboration among all Ghanaians to propel the country's socio-economic development.
The president, therefore, has called for a collaboration among all Ghanaians to propel the country's socio-economic development.
He said the job of nation-building could not be done by him alone as president, hence the need for all Ghanaians to put their shoulders to the wheel to develop the country.
President Mahama made the call yesterday at a thanksgiving mass at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church at Dansoman in Accra.
Also present at the mass were the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama; the Chairperson of the Council of State, Mrs Cecilia Johnson; the Chief of Staff, Mr Prosper Douglas Bani, and a number of ministers of state.
President Mahama said for instance, developed countries such as the United States of America and the United Kingdom also went through turbulent periods.
Therefore, Ghanaians should not despair, but have the hope that the country would witness massive development.
Even now, he said, Ghana's development was enviable as the country had won international commendation so far.
He noted that many Ghanaians did not appreciate the development of the country, but rather portrayed Ghana as if it was the worst country in the world.
According to President Mahama, God had blessed the nation, and; therefore, it was important for Ghanaians to recognise God's blessing and show gratitude.
The Parish Priest of the Star of the Sea Parish, Very Rev Father Samuel Filton-Mensah, underscored the need for Ghanaians to develop their potential to improve their socio-economic existence.
He condemned the attitude of some Ghanaians who did not make any effort towards improving their standard of living, except to blame the devil for their failings.
Very Rev Father Filton-Mensah said such attitude would not bring about any development in the lives of those people.
He, therefore, asked Ghanaians to change their attitude and lifestyles to conform to the teachings of God.
Very Rev. Father Filton-Mensah prayed for God's guidance and blessing for Ghana, the President and his team, to bring about massive development in the country.
