A school teacher in Ohio is in hot water this week
for telling an African-American pupil that he can’t become President
because America doesn’t need another black person in the White House.
An Ohio teacher told a black student that he can’t be president because America doesn’t need another black president.
In 2008, America elected the first African-American President in
United States history. Upon Barack Obama’s victory, millions of
African-American children across the nation instantly had a reason to
dream that they too could one day become the leader of the free world.
So when a black student at Fairfield Freshman School in Ohio announced
that he would like to be a future President, it wasn’t much of a
surprise. After all, children across the country have said the same
thing since the nation’s founding. What WAS surprising is how the boy’s
teacher reacted.
29-year veteran science teacher Gil Voigt allegedly told the student
that he couldn’t become President because America doesn’t need another
black person in the White House. “We do not need another black
president,” Voigt said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
