Flying $3M to Brazil has made Ghana a laughing stock - Kwesi Prat Jnr.

 

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Prat Jnr has said action taken by the Mahama-led administration to fly a cash amount of $3 million to the Black stars in Brazil has made the country a laughing stock.
“I was listening to BBC yesterday and the presenters were making fun of the move made by the government, Ghana has become a laughing stock”, Pratt said on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’.

The Black Stars before their make-or-break encounter with Portugal said they were not going to play the match if their appearance fees were not paid to them in cash.

This caused the government to fly a cash amount of $3 million in a chartered flight to Brazil on Wednesday before the match was played on Thursday.

The match was one they had to win by a 2 goal margin if Ghana wanted to qualify to the knockout stage of the tournament.

Kwesi Pratt said while other head of states were calling their players to encourage them, President Mahama called to send cash.

Not only did Kwesi Prat bemoan the move but also expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the players calling it shocking and surprising.

He chastised the players for abusing the great opportunity offered them to play at the World Cup tournament.

“Playing at the World Cup offers an avenue for the players to make an impact at the world stage and boost the image of the country but he players failed to acknowledge the opportunity offered them”.

He pointed out that other footballers would have wished for an opportunity to be on that world platform if even it meant kicking the ball just once.

A successful performance at the World Cup could change the lives of the players forever, he added.

He recommended that a thorough investigation should be carried out to determine how much officials spent before during and after their journey to the competition.

“Accountability is very important so the officials will tell the country to the last pesewa the amount of money they spent for the tournament”.

He revealed that according to information he had gathered, some of the officials traveled to Brazil in the company of their children, wives and girlfriends.

On answering questions about the need for Kwesi Appiah to be changed, he disagreed with people who felt that a foreign coach will do better job than the current one.

But was quick to add he had no problem if the coach was dismissed due to lack of performance.

He suggested for that the current team and its entire management should be disbanded and new players trained for the Black Stars team.

He, however, congratulated the brilliant performance put up by the Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan and Dede Ayew.

Ghana and Portugal have made their exit from the tournament leaving Germany and United States of America to move on to the next stage.
