IMF urges Ghana govt. to address short-term vulnerabilities.
A mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Christina Daseking, visited Accra during February 12-25, 2014,
to conduct discussions for the 2014 Article IV consultation. The
mission met with Vice-President Amissah-Arthur, Finance Minister
Terkper, Bank of Ghana Governor Wampah, other senior officials, members of parliament, and representatives of the private sector, think tanks, and civil society.
Ghana Electricity Distribution Network to Be Reinforced and Extended With Afdb Support .
In response to the significant increase in the demand for electricity in Ghana as a result of the fast growing urbanization and robust economic growth in the country, the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved on Wednesday, February 26 in Tunis a US $30.47 million grant and a US $43.9 million loan to the Republic of Ghana to reinforce and extend the country's electricity distribution network.

Soaring economic growth in many African countries is coming at the expense of the poor, according to a new report that urges governments to overhaul their tax systems to halt rising inequality.

Ghana Commercial Bank supports 49 Persons.
The Ghana Commercial Bank Ltd.
(GCB) has donated an amount of GH?25,300.00 in support of 49 needy
people with different physical abnormalities, which required plastic
surgery in the Central and Western regions. The donation, which was done
through the Graft Foundation, was to enable corrective
surgery to be performed on needy people, who could not afford the cost
of medical support and surgery.

Hope for HIV Positive Teenagers in Northern Ghana.
With tears rolling down her cheeks, Zainab Salifu queued at the
fevers unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital in northern Ghana. Earlier
in the day, the 18-year-old had been diagnosed HIV positive.
Despite the kind counselling offered by senior nurse Felicity Bampo, Salifu felt her world was crumbling. She wanted to die.

Central African Republic: Ethnic cleansing and sectarian killings.
Ethnic cleansing" is being carried out against Muslim civilians in
the Central African Republic, with international peacekeepers unable to
prevent it, Amnesty International said on Wednesday.
France's
defence minister earlier called on international forces deployed in the
Christian-majority country to put an end to attacks by the militias "by
force if needed".
Ghana president calls for changes over currency pressure.
Ghana needs to make "fundamental" changes to its economy if it is to protect its currency and allow its markets to continue growing steadily, President John Dramani Mahama said on Tuesday.
West Africa's second-largest economy has attracted international interest in recent years because of its promising oil reserves, relative political stability and high growth rates.

African nation, saying it will help strengthen confidence in the cedi.

Shirley Temple Dead: Former Child Star And U.S. Ambassador To Ghana And Czechoslovakia Dies At 85.
Shirley Temple Black, iconic child star and former U.S. ambassador to
Ghana and Czechoslovakia, died on Feb. 10 in California, The Associated
Press reports. Cause of death was not released. She was 85.
Black was a Depression-era box office draw for her work in numerous 1930s films, including "Bright Eyes" and "Curly Top."
