The African Union Commission Chairperson, Dr.
Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma welcomed the signing last Wednesday in Addis
Ababa of an Agreement between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS)
and the Jubba delegation regarding the current political, governance and
security situation of the Jubbas.
A press release AU posted on its website said the Chairperson
commended the Somali parties for reaching this historic Agreement, which
is a further illustration of the capacity of the Somalis to triumph
over their differences.
She lauded Ethiopia for its dedication as well as the untiring
efforts and the resources committed in facilitating the negotiations
between the parties.
She expressed AU's gratitude to the IGAD Secretariat and member
states for their continued commitment to peace, security and
reconciliation in Somalia, and their determination to sustain the
current momentum in Somalia.
The Chairperson called on Somalia's partners to extend support to the
Federal Government and the people in their efforts to reconstruct the
country.
In this respect, she looks forward to the successful holding of the
High-Level Conference on a New Deal for Somalia, scheduled for 16
September 2013 in Brussels.
She assured the Somali authorities and other stakeholders of AU's
continued commitment, through AMISOM, to assist them in consolidating
the tremendous progress they have made.
