Tiffany’s leaked photo: Is she to blame?
It seems that being a celebrity sometimes comes at a price, and Tiffany unfortunately paid for it when nude pictures of her topless were leaked on the internet last week.
The female rapper who’s had popular hits with ‘Fake London Boy’ and ‘Last One’ reportedly had her house robbed, where many personal items were stolen, including her mobile phone. After failing to exhort money from the rapper through blackmail upon discovering nude pictures on her blackberry, the perpetrator then leaked a picture of Tiffany topless on various social networks. The perpetrator has threatened to leak more pictures if his demands are not met.
As a fan of Tiffany I really felt for her when I heard the story, as something like this has the potential of really damaging her musical career when she’s doing so well at the moment. Tiffany has since apologized to fans on Facebook for the incident. Which brings me to the question: why did she even have those pictures on her phone? As unfair as it seems, sometimes having a career in the public eye means you have no private life.
Everything you do is scrutinized and things you don’t want people knowing about you are made public knowledge. Knowing this shouldn’t someone in the public eye take precautions to prevent things like that from happening?
However as someone in the public eye, having nude pictures of yourself on your phone is something you need to seriously think twice about. My problem is not why Tiffany took those nude pictures of herself but rather why she left the images on her phone. I feel that perhaps Tiffany should have realized the risk factor involved in carrying such pictures of herself around. People around you can easily access your phone, and when not careful you expose personal information and in Tiffany’s case images of yourself when you lose or have your phone stolen. As harsh it may sound, she could have prevented this from happening.
With the guy in question now threatening to release more nude pictures, I bet she’s wishing she’d never had those pictures on her phone. I really hope they catch the guy responsible for this before he leaks more nude pictures of her on the internet. It would be a shame to see her career badly affected because of this.

Afrobeats: Ghanaian’s Atumpan & Stay Jay
Atumpan is back with a hot new track called ‘Sisimuden’. This time ‘the teacher’, who brought us the massive hit ‘The Thing’ has teamed up with shashee wowo rapper Stay Jay. Atumpan, who has described himself as an ‘underground dancehallist’ does not disappoint on this track. ‘Sisimuden’ is definitely something to write home about and a great follow up single to the highly popular ‘The Thing’. Having just released his album ‘The Talking Drum’, this will be the second single off the 15 track album.
‘Sisimuden’ is a high energy song that will get you off your feet and dancing in no time. Atumpan and Stay Jay have done an excellent job on this track! Their lyrics are on point and with such a banging beat, I’m sure this track is going to be big! Check the song out!

Gerry Partington crowned Miss Malaika 2011
After 13 weeks of arduous tasks in the Miss Malaika Competition, 22-year-old Gerry Partington has been crowned Miss Malaika 2011.
The undergraduate from the University of Ghana faced stiff competition from nine other pretty and intelligent ladies who all showed potential to wear the crown.
The winner was rather under controversial circumstances as majority of the audience thought the crown should have gone to Alexander who espoused brains with beauty.
For the first time in many years there was a tie between two ladies - Gerry and Alex - which sparked a lot of boos when the announcement was made.
To break the tie the two ladies had to answer the deciding question and yet again Alex was quite phenomenal with her answer.
Someway somehow the judges managed to name Gerry winner of the pageant which left a sour taste in the mouth of many.
This is the second year in a row that the declaration of the winner of the Miss Malaika pageant has been shrouded in controversy.
So as it stands Gerry is Miss Malaika 2011, Alexander, first runner-up and Deborah (Smallie) second runner-up.
For her prize, Gerry takes home a KIA saloon car, GH¢ 6,000, wax prints from ATL, a trip to South Africa amongst others.
Emmanuella won the Ms. Talent session and Magdalene was named Ms Congeniality.
One thing the show would definitely be remembered for is the entertainment bit where Ghana’s fastest rapper Sarkodie tore the stage apart with ‘U go kill me’ and his collaboration with Efya ‘I’m in love with you now’.
Funny Face helped him out with the 'azonto dance'.
Other entertainers for the night were R2Bees who got almost everybody screaming ‘Agyeiii’, their latest single.
Stay J and Dr. Sid from Nigeria also played their part in entertaining the audience.

Abner Mares Defeats Joseph Agbeko in Highly Controversial Fight
In Showtime's bantamweight tournament finale, Abner Mares defeated Joseph Agbeko in one of the most controversial fights in recent years. Mares put on a good performance but played foul the entire fight by hitting Agbeko with continuous low blows. Estimates show Mares hit Agbeko below the belt anywhere between 15 to 20 times.
That most disappointing part of the bout was the horrible job by referee Russell Mora, who did not take a point away from Mares due to his low blows.
It took at least 10 low blows for Mares to receive his first warning, and as he continued to hit Agbeko with low blows, referee Mora just stood there and watched it, knowing that the punches were landing low.
The ugliest part of the night came in the 11th round when Mares once again hit Agbeko with a monstrous low blow that sent him to ground. This time referee Mora did step in and called time, but to the surprise of everyone proceeded to a 10 count on Agbeko, calling the low blow an actual knockdown. As Agbeko made the count he complained to the referee as the round ended and as he reached his corner Agbeko's trainer approached the referee aggressively to complain and had to be stopped by
security.
As the fight ended in Round 12, Agbeko felt disappointed in the referee's job and he him himself had to be sustained by security from approaching the referee. In this fight we saw one of the worse refereeing jobs we have seen in the sport of boxing in quite some time. We saw a referee watch one fighter hit another with low blows from Round 1 all the way to Round 12 and just stood there with no remorse for the fighter being constantly hit illegally.
Al Bernstein and Jim Gray also expressed their great disappointment in the referee's job, calling it the worse performance by a referee in the last 15 years.
Considering all the fights Al Bernstein has covered and the factthat he doesn't like to complain about referees, that's gotta go be one hell of a bad job, and indeed it was. Feeling cheated, Agbeko's team has said that they will protest the fight and demand an immediate rematch.
Abner Mares fought a decent fight against a very tough opponent, but this win will forever be tarnished by how dirty he fought to get the win and most importantly the fact that he was helped by the referee's horrible
job of giving him a great advantage over Agbeko.
Referee Russell Mora should be ashamed of himself and the ommission should without a doubt suspend him immediately.

Singer Amy Winehouse found dead @ Aged 27
Troubled singer Amy Winehouse, whose struggle with drink and drugs overshadowed her sultry musical talents, has been found dead at her flat in north London, emergency services said.
She was 27. Winehouse rocketed to fame after winning five Grammy awards off the back of her 2006 second album "Back to Black" and the hit single "Rehab". The singer had a European comeback tour schedule but pulled out following a disastrous opening performance in Serbia on June 18. In the run-up to her live return,
Winehouse spent a week at an
addiction treatment clinic in London, reportedly at the suggestion of her father, Mitch, over concerns that she
was drinking too much. But she was booed at the opening
performance in Belgrade, apparently too drunk to sing. Some 20,000 people gathered for the highly-promoted concert at the sixth-century Kalemegdan fortress, but many soon left.
During the 90-minute concert,
Winehouse could only mumble some of the lyrics, failing to follow her band. She left the stage twice, with many fans showing their displeasure despite her band's attempts to calm the crowd.
"Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances," a statement from her representatives said. "Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen." She had also been scheduled to perform in Istanbul, Athens, Bilbao in Spain, Locarno in Switzerland, Italy's Lucca festival, Switzerland's Paleo Festival in Nyon, Nova Jazz and Blues Night in Wiesen, Austria, and Poland's Bydgoszcz Artpop Festival.
She made her final public appearance at The Roundhouse venue in Camden on Wednesday, joining her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield on stage. She danced with Bromfield and ecouraged the audience to buy the youngster's album before leaving. Known for her distinctive voice and beehive hairstyle, Winehouse's debut
album "Frank" was released in 2003 and brought her wide acclaim. It went triple platinum in Britain. The follow-up, "Back to Black", was a worldwide smash hit, reaching number one in Britain and number two in the US charts.
It went six times platinum in Britain and double platinum in the United States. She married Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami in May 2007 but they had a tempestuous relationship. He spent part of their marriage behind bars for a vicious attack on a pub landlord and a
subsequent attempt to cover it up. They divorced in July 2009.
Fielder-Civil, 29, was jailed again for 32 months in June for carrying out a domestic burglary with an accomplice "while in the grip of heroin addiction"

English sideSunderland partnerwith Ghana’s AsanteKotoko
The Porcupine Warriors are
expected to benefit in many areas
from the deal with the Black Cats
while the Ghanaians have been
tasked to promote the club in Africa According to the Wearsiders, the spirit of the pact allows them to share coaching and business expertise with the Porcupine Warriors, offer practical
support and advice in youth
coaching, player development, fitness and medical matters, as well as football business strategy. “Kotoko in turn will work closely with Sunderland to help the club build and grow its brand in the emerging African territory,” the club’s official website added.
The announcement is coming on the heels of an April visit of Kotoko
officials to the Stadium of Light, where the Ghanaian delegation toured the Black Cats’ facilities and met with the management. "It was a huge honour to welcome theKotoko officials to our club and I'm delighted that we have now
formalised a partnership agreement with them,” Sunderland chairman Niall
Quinn stated. "There's a tremendous passion for
football in Ghana and I see a real
synergy with Sunderland in that
respect - football means the world to the people of Ghana and in that
respect they are no different to Sunderland fans. There's an infectious enthusiasm for the game that is wonderful to witness and we are honoured to be working with Kotoko and the Ghanaian people." In the past season Ghanaian trio, John Mensah, Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan played for Sunderland, but only the latter remains at the club, since the other two left at the end of their loan spells. The Kumasi-based club are former African champions and are currently going through a great deal of restructuring to return to their former glory days.
Michael Essien's Chelseawoes go on after injuryin pre-season training
Michael Essien has suffered an injury during pre-season training with Chelsea.Michael Essien has suffered a fresh knee injury during Chelsea's pre- season training on Thursday. The midfielder is undergoing tests for the problem in his right leg, and the precise nature and severity of the damage will not become clear until Saturday or Sunday . There are bound to be fears at Chelsea
that the damage could be similar to knee problems suffered by Essien over the past three years. He sustained an anterior cruciate injury to his left knee in September 2008 that ruled him out until the following March and he missed last summer's World Cup after tearing the medial knee ligaments in the same leg during training for the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2010. Chelsea refused to confirm or deny claims by the club's former midfielder Jody Morris on Twitter that Essien had suffered a cruciate injury. A statement said: "Michael Essien suffered an injury to his right knee during training this week. He will undergo tests over the
next few days to determine the extent of that injury. Until we have the full results of those tests we will not be commenting further." Chelsea's first pre-season game is next Saturday when they play Portsmouth in a friendly before leaving for a tour to Asia a few days later.
Whether André Villas-Boas, the new manager, will be able to include the influential Ghanaian in this programme is unclear. Chelsea have appointed Michael Emenalo as technical director, with the 46-year-old Nigerian taking responsibility for Chelsea's scouting, with him stating he will aid Villas-Boas in deciding the club's playing personnel. He told Chelsea's website: "I'm going
to be supporting the manager and
working with him in making sure that things run smoothly. I have the responsibility to direct and manage our scouting structure internationally and domestically, and to keep an eye on and assist the progress of the academy. "Over the next weeks and months I will be getting the scouts in place, finding the people that will lead the scouts along with me, and integrating the agendas and ideas of the different areas from the first team to the academy. We have been gradually reducing the quantity of our scouts and also trying to improve the efficiency of the system.
"The final decisions about who comes in and who doesn't will be the manager's to make but there will be a lot of working together and I would imagine I will be part of that process.
" Branislav Ivanovic, meanwhile, has offered an initial insight into Villas-Boas's methods.
The defender said:
"The first impressions are very good. There has been an interesting dynamic to the first couple of training sessions, and we will have time to get to know him and see what he wants
us players to show him on the pitch. "I think he will give all the players a great opportunity to give their best for the team. Like him, we want to be a better group, a better team.
Individually everyone knows we
have the quality but we have to work as a team and as a group."

Nite Of 1012 Laughs Was A DoubleBlast back
Yet again, the Dome of the
International Conference centre was
filled to capacity with numerous
expectant audience who had come
there with a common goal - to ‘laugh
out loud’ (lol). And indeed, their expectations were
met beyond the limit, to
commensurate their Ghc 50 standard
and Ghc 100 VIP cost per ticket.
Although a major political event, the
ruling party's Delegates Congress, had taken place on the same day and into
night of the ‘Nite of 1012 laughs', it
could not disrupt the laughs but rather
boosted it with jokes being made out
of the results which had come in just
before the show took off. Most of the patrons at this years’ Nite
of 1012 laughs, had their
expectations met with rib cracking
jokes from some of Nigeria’s finest
stand up comedians including Bash,
Owen Gee and the legendary Gordons.
Some Nigerian comedians who were
first timers in Ghana included Emeka
Smith and Elenu who also succeeded
in sending patrons home with tummy
aches they got from excessive laughter.
Ghana’s only ‘swag-on papa’ (Funny
Face) who was the co-MC for the night
was at his best ones again, bursting
onto the stage with a new song he has
recorded with ‘African Girls’ hit maker Castro.
Funny Face, who is also well known
for creating jokes on the spare of the
moment, could not help but put KOD
(Kofi Okyere Darko) –radio presenter
turned ‘tailor’ on the spot, praising and teasing him (KOD) for his (Funny
Face)’ outfit which by the way looked
quite good.
He also did not leave out striker
Asamoah Gyan, when he told him
“you are here laughing, penalty is coming”.
This comment generated a roof
ripping laughter from the audience
since almost every one there could
identify with what Funny Face meant.
The night could not have been complete without a stint of good music
to complement the jokes.
Tunes from sensational Efya seemed
to have come at the right time to relax
the audience who had been laughing
non-stop from the beginning of the programme.
Her hit song ‘little things’ got quite a
number of patrons singing along right
from the beginning to the end of the
song.
Efya later joined Ghana’s fastest rapper Sarkodie to perform ‘I’m in
love with you’, an outstanding
collaboration which many music
lovers have tipped to win ‘Best
Collaboration for the year 2011’ at the
next Ghana Music Awards, but that is certainly contentious and can be
shelved for another day.
The duo looked splendid on stage
because not only did they sing so well
but also showed a lot of emotions
which the song naturally exudes. Sarkodie, after being ‘forgiven’ by
Efya, took the show to another level,
dropping his latest hit song which has
come to be known as ‘azonto',
althouhg the song is originally titled
'You Go Kill me'. At this point, the audience were on
their feet dancing and singing along,
with some of them attempting to do
the ‘azonto’ dance moves.
Legendary Hi-life musician Ben Brako
also spiced up the musical bit of the show with some of his great songs
including ‘Baya’.
The star studded event had a number
of footballers filling the VIP section of
the auditorium.
The likes of Asamoah Gyan and brother Barfuor were seen every now
and then laughing at the several jokes
which kept coming from the main
stage.
Ghana’s John Paintsil, Togolese
international Adebayor and actor John Dumelo came in moments to the
end of the show but also had a few
laughs before the show ended.
At the end, organizers promised a
bigger and better show at the latter
part of the year which would be the ‘Nite of 1013 laughs’ and patrons
cannot wait for that time.

Manually Hide any file in JPEG
Hello Friends, today i will explain you how to hide any file behind the JPEG image manually that is without any software. Its a very easy trick and also very useful if you want to send information secretly to your friend. Also its different from stenography as it does hides text behind images or text behind mp3 files. Its universal, you can hide any file, virus or Trojan or anything behind image using this trick.
Things that you will need for this trick:
1. Winrar installed on your system.
2. Little knowledge of command prompt.
Steps to Hide any File behind JPEG image Manually
1. Create an folder into C drive (recommendation is that use this C: \Hidden).
2. Now gather all files that you want to hide in this folder.
3. Now add these all files to compressed .rar file using winrar (example myhiddenfiles.rar ). Note: This rar file should be in the same directory (i.e. C:\Hidden)
4. Now Select the JPEG file that you want to use to hide the above content (say myimage.jpg). Put this image file also in the same folder that is in C:\Hidden
5. Now, open Command Prompt (Go to Run and type ‘cmd‘). Make your working directory C:\hidden. (When you open CMD you will get like C:\Documents and settings \username (something like this) Now type cd.. and press enter and then again type cd.. and press enter. Now you have something like this in cmd C:\ . Now in front of that type cd "Hidden" and press enter. )
6. Now type: “COPY /b myimage.jpg + myhiddenfiles.rar outputimage.jpg” (without quotes) - Now, myimage.jpg is the picture you want to show, myhiddenfiles.rar is the file to be hidden, and outputimage.jpg is the file which contains both....
7. Now, after you have done this, you will see a file output.jpg in C: \hidden. Open it (double-click) and it will show the picture you wanted to show. Now try opening the same file with WinRAR, it will show the hidden archive

- Eto'o Hits Lagos in Private Jet
Reigning African Footballer of the
Year, Samuel Eto'o Fils will be storming
Lagos in a private jet. Also on board
the jet flying directly from Yaoundé,
the capital of Cameroon is his
international team mate, Jean Makoun. Both Indomitable Lions stars are
coming to the commercial capital of
Nigeria at the behest of their friend,
Nwankwo Kanu, who is formally
hanging up his international boots this
Saturday. The Inter Milan star, who broke this news to the organisers of the Kanu
Testimonial match, hinted that the
same private jet will be taking both
Cameroon internationals to Nice in
southern France, where Cote d'Ivoire
skipper, Didier Drogba will be holding his wedding 24 hours after the game
in Lagos. And so the Indomitable Lions skipper,
just like Ghana's Michael Essien, has
decided to shelve hitting France early
to take part in Drogba's pre-wedding
festivities, in order to honour the two
time African footballer of the year. Earlier, Essein had explained that but
for the high esteem he holds Kanu he
would have been in France on
Saturday. Instead the Chelsea star will
be arriving Lagos on Saturday
morning courtesy of Arik Airways and will be leaving immediately after
the game for France. Incidentally it is the wedding that has
prevented Drogba himself from flying
in for the testimonial. Etoe, Makoun
and Essien are only some of the array
of African football legends fans will be
able to see live on Saturday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. Some others
also coming include Senegalese
footballer, El Hadji Diouf, Ghanaian
stars Asamoah Gyan and Sulley
Muntari and Emmanuel Adebayor,
skipper of the Togo respectively. Apart from the footballers, some big
name personalities will also be in town
this weekend. Top on the list are
Bonfrere Jo, the man Nigerians will
always remember for guiding the
nation to Atlanta'96 glory, and Sir Dave Richards, chairman of the FA
Premier League. Meanwhile, the accreditation for the
match will take place at the Teslim
Balogun Stadium, Lagos from 1pm on
Thursday. The Kanu Testimonial Organising
Committee is appealing to the media to
remember that the media tribune at
the stadium is not the large so the
passes for the match will be severely
restricted.

East Africa's al Qaeda mastermindkilled
AP – The al-Qaida mastermind behind the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies
in Kenya and Tanzania was killed this
week at a security checkpoint in
Mogadishu by Somali forces who
didn’t immediately realize he was the most wanted man in East Africa,
officials said Saturday. The death of Fazul Abdullah
Mohammed - a man who topped the
FBI’s most wanted list for nearly 13 years - is the third major strike in six
weeks against the worldwide terror
group that was headed by Osama bin
Laden until his death last month.
Mohammed had a $5 million bounty
on his head for planning the Aug. 7, 1998, embassy bombings. The blasts
killed 224 people in Nairobi, Kenya
and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Most of
the dead were Kenyans. Twelve
Americans also died.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton - who was on a visit to
Tanzania on Saturday as Somali
officials confirmed Mohammed’s death - called the killing a “significant blow to al-Qaida, its extremist allies, and its
operations in East Africa.
“It is a just end for a terrorist who brought so much death and pain to so
many innocents in Nairobi and Dar es
Salaam and elsewhere - Tanzanians,
Kenyans, Somalis, and our own
embassy personnel,” Clinton said. White House counterterrorism adviser
John Brennan called Mohammed’s death “another huge setback to al- Qaida and its extremist allies, and
provides a measure of justice to so
many who lost loved ones. ” Mohammed was killed Tuesday but
was carrying a South African passport,
so Somali officials didn’t immediately realize who he was. The body was
even buried. Officials later exhumed it.
“We’ve compared the pictures of the body to his old pictures,” said a spokesman for Somalia’s minister of information, Abdifatah Abdinur. “They are the same. It is confirmed. He is the
man and he is dead. The man who
died is Fazul Abdullah.” Mohammed, a native of the Comoros
Islands, was carrying sophisticated
weapons, maps, other operational
materials and tens of thousands of
dollars when he was killed,
Information Minister Abdulkareem Jama said. Family pictures and
correspondence with other militants
were also found, he said. The money,
equipment and personal effects made
officials take a second look at the
death, he said. “We congratulate our army for killing the head of al-Qaida operations in East
Africa. They have shown their
effectiveness,” he said. Earlier in the week, a Somali security
officer had described to The
Associated Press the deaths of two
men in Mogadishu, one of whom is
now believed to have been
Mohammed. The security official, Osman Nur Diriye,
said that two men riding in a luxury
car pulled up to a government-run
checkpoint Tuesday night. After
security forces found a pistol on one
of the men, gunfire was exchanged. Diriye said a Somali and a man
believed to be South African died. The
man identified as a South African is
now believed to have been
Mohammed, Abdinur said.
Gen. Abdikarim Yusuf Dhagabadan, Somalia’s deputy army chief, said officials at first did not know who the
dead man was.
“We buried him,” he said. “But soon after checking his documents, (we)
exhumed his body and took his
pictures and DNA. Then we had
learned that he was the man wanted
by the U.S. authorities.” Mohammed’s death is the third major blow against al-Qaida in the last six
weeks. Navy SEALs killed bin Laden
on May 2 at his home in Pakistan. Just
a month later, Ilyas Kashmiri, an al-
Qaida leader sought in the 2008
Mumbai siege and rumored to be a longshot choice to succeed bin Laden,
was reportedly killed in a U.S. drone
attack in Pakistan.
The strike against Kashmiri was not
the direct result of intelligence material
seized from the bin Laden compound, U.S. and Pakistan officials say. If the
account of the killing at the security
checkpoint killing is confirmed, it
would appear Mohammed’s death is also not the result of new intelligence.
Dhagabadan described the death as
“similar to Osama bin Laden’s.” “He was worse to us than bin Laden,” he said. “It is a victory for the world. It is a victory for Somali army. ” Bill Roggio, the managing editor of
The Long War Journal, said
Mohammed’s death is a big triumph for both the U.S. and Somalia.
“Fazul is considered by U.S. intelligence officials to be al-Qaida’s most dangerous operative in Africa, ” he said. “He had an extensive network in the Horn of Africa and
beyond that allowed him to move in
and out of Somalia with ease. This
made him a difficult target for security
forces in the region.” According to the South African
passport he was carrying with him
when he was killed, Mohammed left
South Africa on March 19 and arrived
in Tanzania the next day, Diriye, the
security officer, said. The passport had no other stamps, indicating
Mohammed smuggled his way into
Somalia, he said. Tanzania is two
countries south of Somalia. Kenya lies
in between the two.
A senior Obama administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity
to discuss intelligence matters, called
Mohammed’s killing “a big win for global counterterrorism efforts.” “We commend the good work by the (Somali government forces),” the official added. “This is a very big deal. Fazul’s death removes one of the terrorist group’s most experienced operational planners in East Africa and
has almost certainly set back
operations.” Thousands of people were wounded
when a pickup truck rigged as a bomb
exploded outside the four-story U.S.
Embassy building in downtown
Nairobi. Within minutes, another
bomb shattered the U.S. mission in Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam. The State Department has
vastly increased security at U.S.
embassies around the world since
those bombings, and has often been
criticized for sacrificing style for safety
with bland, fortress-like buildings. Another man suspected of
involvement in the embassy
bombings - Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan -
was killed in Somalia in a 2009 U.S.
raid.
Edith Bartley, whose father and brother were killed in the Kenya
embassy bombing, said the family
was “extremely, extremely pleased ” to hear the news. “We’re coming up on the 13th anniversary of the embassy bombing
and this individual was part of the
original indictment in the first al-Qaida
trial in 2001, so it’s long overdue,” said Bartley, who lives in Bowie,
Maryland.
Members of Somalia’s most dangerous militant group, al-Shabab, have
pledged allegiance to al-Qaida. Al-
Shabab’s members include veterans of the Iraq and Pakistan conflicts.
Hundreds of foreign fighters are
swelling the ranks of al-Shabab
militants who are trying in vain to
topple the country’s weak U.N.- backed government.
Somalia has been mired in violence
since 1991, when the last central
government collapsed.

attack in Pakistan.
The strike against Kashmiri was not
the direct result of intelligence material
seized from the bin Laden compound, U.S. and Pakistan officials say. If the
account of the killing at the security
checkpoint killing is confirmed, it
would appear Mohammed’s death is also not the result of new intelligence.
Dhagabadan described the death as
“similar to Osama bin Laden’s.” “He was worse to us than bin Laden,” he said. “It is a victory for the world. It is a victory for Somali army. ” Bill Roggio, the managing editor of
The Long War Journal, said
Mohammed’s death is a big triumph for both the U.S. and Somalia.
“Fazul is considered by U.S. intelligence officials to be al-Qaida’s most dangerous operative in Africa, ” he said. “He had an extensive network in the Horn of Africa and
beyond that allowed him to move in
and out of Somalia with ease. This
made him a difficult target for security
forces in the region.” According to the South African
passport he was carrying with him
when he was killed, Mohammed left
South Africa on March 19 and arrived
in Tanzania the next day, Diriye, the
security officer, said. The passport had no other stamps, indicating
Mohammed smuggled his way into
Somalia, he said. Tanzania is two
countries south of Somalia. Kenya lies
in between the two.
A senior Obama administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity
to discuss intelligence matters, called
Mohammed’s killing “a big win for global counterterrorism efforts.” “We commend the good work by the (Somali government forces),” the official added. “This is a very big deal. Fazul’s death removes one of the terrorist group’s most experienced operational planners in East Africa and
has almost certainly set back
operations.” Thousands of people were wounded
when a pickup truck rigged as a bomb
exploded outside the four-story U.S.
Embassy building in downtown
Nairobi. Within minutes, another
bomb shattered the U.S. mission in Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam. The State Department has
vastly increased security at U.S.
embassies around the world since
those bombings, and has often been
criticized for sacrificing style for safety
with bland, fortress-like buildings. Another man suspected of
involvement in the embassy
bombings - Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan -
was killed in Somalia in a 2009 U.S.
raid.
Edith Bartley, whose father and brother were killed in the Kenya
embassy bombing, said the family
was “extremely, extremely pleased ” to hear the news. “We’re coming up on the 13th anniversary of the embassy bombing
and this individual was part of the
original indictment in the first al-Qaida
trial in 2001, so it’s long overdue,” said Bartley, who lives in Bowie,
Maryland.
Members of Somalia’s most dangerous militant group, al-Shabab, have
pledged allegiance to al-Qaida. Al-
Shabab’s members include veterans of the Iraq and Pakistan conflicts.
Hundreds of foreign fighters are
swelling the ranks of al-Shabab
militants who are trying in vain to
topple the country’s weak U.N.- backed government.
Somalia has been mired in violence
since 1991, when the last central
government collapsed.

UK e-waste illegally dumped in Ghana
One of the UK's leading waste and recycling companies has been linked to the growing underground trade in e-waste after campaigners uncovered evidence that broken television sets deposited at the firm's facilities were exported to Africa in contravention of regulations designed to stem the flow of electronic waste to developing countries, the Ecologist can reveal.
Merseyside-based Environment Waste Controls (EWC), whose clients are reported to include ASDA, Tesco, Barclays, the NHS and Network Rail, has admitted that electronic equipment from its amenity sites in South London ended up in West Africa after being exported by a third party company and says it has taken steps to prevent this happening in the future.
Campaigners from the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) pinpoint the company in a report outlining Britain's role in the global e-waste trade, due to be published next week. The report details the findings of an 18 month investigation into how UK e-waste, much of it toxic, is ending up abroad where it is frequently processed in primitive conditions, posing a threat to the environment and human health.
A BBC Panorama programme to be broadcast on Monday night also investigates the trade and uncovers further evidence of UK electronics waste making its way to West Africa.
As part of the probe, EIA staff visited civic amenity sites in Merton and Croydon where e-waste collection is run by EWC and were told that some of the electrical waste arriving at the facilities was routinely collected by a separate company who exported it to Nigeria and Ghana.
Investigators were told at the Merton amenity site that at least seven tonnes of TVs were being sold to the third party company each week, at a cost of between £1.50 and £2.00 per set.
Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic (WEEE) Resources Regulations 2006, as long as the e-waste arriving at the sites was tested and found to be properly working its export would be permissible.
However, the EIA hid tracking devices inside television sets which had been disabled beyond repair and left them at the Merton and Croydon sites. Several weeks later, according to the group, GPS signals indicated that one TV had been shipped to Nigeria, ending up near a well known e-waste recycling centre, and one was found to have arrived in Ghana.
The EIA says this evidence demonstrates that proper checks were not always being carried out and that the broken TV sets should, under WEEE regulations, have been be sent for recycling in the UK or another developed country, not shipped to West Africa. The campaigners believe this is not an isolated example and say that intelligence suggests that British e-waste is regularly diverted from local authority sites into the black market.
'When disposing of used electrical goods at civic amenity sites, the public has a right to expect that the equipment will be disposed of in accordance with the law,' the group states.
In a statement to the Ecologist, EWC said that it welcomed the EIA report and acknowledged that e-waste from its facilities had ended up in Africa in contravention of WEEE regulations: 'This is unacceptable and EWC has put in place measures to prevent a reoccurrence of this practice and to undertake a full investigation in cooperation with the regulator and relevant authorities. We have instructed all our sub contractors that no electronic equipment deposited at designated collection facilities operated by EWC should leave the UK until further notice.'
EWC, which runs 49 local authority waste sites as well as handling waste and recycling on behalf of the public and private sector, also told the Ecologist that it has not worked with the third party company involved in exporting the faulty TVs to Africa since October 2010.
E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the UK, with more than one-million tonnes being generated annually according to some estimates. The UN has stated that global production of e-waste now totals at 50 million tonnes, of which only ten per cent is recycled.
E-waste can be hazardous to the environment and people - computer processors contain a mixture of chemicals and cathode ray tubes fitted in many older style TVs can contain lead. These substances are released when e-waste is stripped down in destination countries, often on vast unofficial waste dumps where workers lack protective clothing and health and safety regulations are poor or non-existant.
In recent years the UK authorities have stepped up efforts to combat the illegal trade in e-waste following growing concern about the scale of the activity.
The Environment Agency has a National Intelligence Team and an Environmental Crime Unit working to tackle the issue and has recently brought prosecutions against a number of individuals involved in e-waste trafficking. There are concerns however that funding for the Agency's e-waste work will be slashed as part of current cost-cutting measures.
Earlier this year the Environment Agency's head Paul Leinster said the body had found evidence of e-waste from government departments forming part of illegal exports.
As the Ecologist revealed in December 2010, the e-waste trade has attracted the interest of highly organised criminal gangs who see it as a lucrative and relatively risk-free activity. The EIA says its investigations have established how a complex network of brokers and middlemen are increasingly facilitating the movement of e-waste, making detection even harder for legitimate companies and the authorities.
'E-waste isn't a new problem and it isn't going away. It's time for the government and enforcement agencies to give this issue the resources and attention it warrants,' EIA's Fin Walravens said.

NATO airstrikes pound Tripoli targets
A security services building and the headquarters of Libya's anti-corruption agency in Tripoli have been set ablaze after being hit by apparent NATO air strikes.
The two buildings on Al-Jumhuriya Avenue are close to the residence of leader Muammar Gaddafi, in an area where two explosions were heard at around 1.30am on Tuesday (1130 GMT).
By 3am firefighters were battling to control flames that were tearing through the two facing buildings, according to an AFP correspondent brought to the area by Libyan authorities.
The head of Libya's Ministry for Inspection and Popular Control, the anti-corruption agency, was at the scene and said that some ministry employees had been injured, but provided no further details.
Government spokesman Mussa Ibrahim later said that the rebel National Transitional Council (NTC), based in eastern city of Benghazi, had directed NATO to attack the agency in a bid to destroy files related to former regime officials who have joined the rebellion.
"We believe that NATO has been misled to destroy files on their corruption cases," he told reporters.
Three explosions had also been heard earlier in the same area.
Parts of Tripoli have been targeted almost daily by NATO-led strikes carried out since a March 19 UN resolution called for the protection of civilians from Gaddafi's regime.
"NATO seems to be going with the rebel lead, in that no ceasefire agreement will made with Gaddafi, which therefore means continued military action," he said.
The assertion that Gaddafi is authorising the killing of civilians in a crackdown on anti-government rebels has prompted the International Criminal Court (ICC) to seek arrest warrants on Monday for the Libyan leader, his son and the country's intelligence chief.

Banana Peel fixture......
Group I is proving to be a three-horse race involving Sudan, Ghana and Congo with the Ghana Black Stars set for a banana peel fixture in Congo this weekend.
Ghana, 2010 World Cup quarterfinalists, lead the group on four points, same as Sudan with Congo a point behind.
Second-placed Sudan are expected to beat visiting Swaziland in Omdurman and could shoot to the top of the table should Congo and Ghana cancel themselves out in the other game in this group.
Congo fought back from a 2-0 reverse in Sudan to beat Swaziland 3-1, while Ghana were held to a scoreless draw in Kumasi by plucky Sudan after they demolished Swaziland 3-0 away from home.
Germany-based striker Francky Sembolo grabbed a brace for Congo in their home win over the Swazis.
Former Ghana skipper Stephen Appiah has warned that the relatively unknown Congolese will not be pushovers especially at their backyard.
“They should play team work and not individual play. They should not be selfish because they need to get the three points which is the most important thing. The result will be positive if they do all these,” cautioned Appiah.
Ghana trained in Nairobi, Kenya, for this match, but their build-up has been anything but plain sailing.
Chelsea star Michael Essien still won’t pitch with the Black Stars after asking for a break away from international football.
Sunderland midfielder Sulley Muntari is a major doubt for Sunday’s game as a result of injury, while the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have opened an investigation over claims by AC Milan ace Kevin Prince-Boateng that he is injured.
Star striker Asamoah Gyan has been suspended for this encounter and so a lot of responsibility in front of goal will now fall on on-form striker Prince Tagoe.
Tagoe has netted six goals in as many matches for Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade on loan from German club Hoffenheim.
“We know how crucial this game is for all of us. What is important is we beat Congo to enhance our chances and it doesn’t matter who scores the goals for that to happen,” said Tagoe.
New Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic, who will be making his competitive debut in Brazzaville, has been most impressed with Tagoe, who was played as a midfielder at last year’s World Cup in South Africa.
Goal scoring has remained the bane of the “African Brazilians”.

Profile: Muammar Gaddafi
Muammar Gaddafi is clinging to power in Libya amid violence and unrest.
Colonel Muammar Gaddafi is the longest-serving leader in both Africa and the Arab world, having ruled Libya since he toppled King Idris I in a bloodless coup at the age of 27.
Known for his flamboyant dress-sense and gun-toting female body guards, the Libyan leader is also considered a skilled political operator who moved swiftly to bring his country out of diplomatic isolation.
It was in 2003 - after some two decades of pariah status - that Tripoli took responsibility for the bombing of a Pan Am plane over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, paving the way for the UN to lift sanctions.
Months later, Col Gadaffi's regime abandoned efforts to develop weapons of mass destruction, triggering a fuller rapprochement with the West.
That saw him complete a transition from international outcast to an accepted, if unpredictable, leader.
"He's unique in his discourse, in his behaviour, in his practice and in his strategy," says Libya analyst Saad Djebbar.
"But he's a shrewd politician, make no mistake about that. He's a political survivor of the first order."
Bedouin roots
Muammar Gaddafi was born in the desert near Sirte in 1942.
In his youth he was an admirer of Egyptian leader and Arab nationalist Gamal Abdel Nasser, taking part in anti-Israel protests during the Suez crisis in 1956.

He first hatched plans to topple the monarchy at military college, and received further army training in Britain before returning to the Libyan city of Benghazi and launching his coup there on 1 September 1969.
He laid out his political philosophy in the 1970s in his Green Book, which charted a home-grown alternative to both socialism and capitalism, combined with aspects of Islam.
In 1977 he invented a system called the "Jamahiriya" or "state of the masses", in which power is meant to be held by thousands of "peoples' committees".
The Libyan leader's singular approach is not limited to political philosophy.
On foreign trips he sets up camp in a luxury Bedouin tent and is accompanied by armed female bodyguards - said to be considered less easily distracted than their male counterparts.
A tent is also used to receive visitors in Libya, where Col Gaddafi sits through meetings or interviews swishing the air with a horsehair or palm leaf fly-swatter.
Idiosyncratic
Benjamin Barber, an independent political analyst from the US who has met Col Gaddafi several times recently to discuss Libya's future, says the Libyan leader "sees himself very much as an intellectual".
Muammar Gaddafi and Tony Blair - 29 May 2007 Gaddafi hosts fellow heads of state in a Bedouin tent
"As a man he is surprisingly philosophical and reflective in his temperament - for an autocrat,"
"I see him very much as a Berber tribesman, somebody who came out of a culture informed by the desert, by the sand, and in some ways very atypical of modern leadership, and that's given him a certain endurance and persistence."
Col Gaddafi has long tried to exert his influence over the region and beyond.
Early on he sent his army into Chad, where it occupied the Aozou Strip in the north of the country in 1973.
In the 1980s, he hosted training camps for rebel groups from across West Africa, including Tuaregs, who are part of the Berber community.
More recently he has led efforts to mediate with Tuareg rebels in Niger and Mali.
'Mad dog'
The diplomatic community's rejection of Libya centred on Col Gaddafi's backing for a number of militant groups, including the Irish Republican Army and the Palestine Liberation Organisation.
US president Ronald Reagan labelled Libya's leader a "mad dog", and the US responded to Libya's alleged involvement in attacks in Europe with airstrikes on Tripoli and Benghazi in 1986.
Col Gaddafi was said to be badly shaken by the bombings, in which his adopted daughter was killed.
Spurned in his efforts to unite the Arab world, from the 1990s Col Gaddafi turned his gaze towards Africa, proposing a "United States" for the continent.
He adopted his dress accordingly, sporting clothes that carried emblems of the African continent or portraits of African leaders.
At the turn of the millennium, with Libya struggling under sanctions, he began to bring his country in from the cold.
In 2003 the turnaround was secured, and five years later Libya reached a final compensation agreement over Lockerbie and other bombings, allowing normal ties with Washington to be restored.
"There will be no more wars, raids, or acts of terrorism," Col Gaddafi said as he celebrated 39 years in power.
Domestic challenges
At home, the Libyan leader presents himself as the spiritual guide of the nation, overseeing what he says is a version of direct democracy.
In practice, critics say, Col Gadaffi has retained absolute, authoritarian control.
Dissent has been ruthlessly crushed and the media remains under strict government control.
Muammar Gaddafi in Tripoli - 13 February 2011 Gaddafi's regime is accused of serious human rights abuses
Libya has a law forbidding group activity based on a political ideology opposed to Col Gaddafi's revolution.
The regime has imprisoned hundreds of people for violating the law and sentenced some to death, Human Rights Watch says.
Torture and disappearances have also been reported.
But, aware of his age, Col Gadaffi is now thought to be preparing the ground for a transition.
It is far from clear who might succeed him.
Speculation has focused on one of his sons, Sayf al-Islam Gaddafi, a leading proponent of reform.
Sayf has announced that he is retiring from politics, but opinion is divided about whether this is a tactical move aimed at expanding his popular support.
Meanwhile, Gaddafi senior has promised that most of the country's ministries will be abolished, and their budgets - Libya's considerable oil windfall - will be handed straight to the population.
But though Libya's economy has been opened up to foreign investment, reform is slow.
Many Libyans are confused as to how things are changing and feel they are not benefiting from Libya's wealth, observers say, with public services poor and corruption rife.
"They are very cautious in terms of effecting change in case that would undermine their power," said Saad Djebbar.
"But at the same time they are aware that they should do something. That's why they are very, very slow."

Chelsea vs Man United: The Biggest Match of The Season?
Many will argue that today’s match between Chelsea and Manchester United is the biggest of the season. It’s certainly will have a lot of implications depending on the result. But is it the biggest match of the season? It depends a lot on what Chelsea does today.
A win for Chelsea will keep the race for the Premier League title open, not so much for Chelsea who would then be 12 points behind Manchester United but with a game in hand, but more so for Arsenal which would remain four points behind United with a game in hand, albeit against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
There’s a chance that Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur could go on a run between now and the end of the season to narrow the 10 point and 13 point gap respectively, but at this stage of the season with Manchester United in the form that they’re currently in, I don’t see it happening.
For the sake of competition, and being a neutral fan following the league on a daily basis, the best thing that could happen today is a win for Chelsea to keep the Premier League title race open. A draw will satisfactory to Manchester United. And a win for United would push them seven points clear at the top essentially cementing their Premier League title.
But clubs don’t play for the neutral fan of the Premier League. So whatever happens today at Stamford Bridge will happen on its own merits with two teams who haven’t been themselves this season battling it out for the 90 minutes.

NDC: Nana Addo Should Relocate To Somalia Or Iraq
...Since He Believes In Suicide Missions
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party has asked the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remove Nana Akufo-Addo as their flagbearer for his infamous “all die be die” comment since it is obvious the NPP leader has the proclivity for violence which is inimical to Ghana’s growing democracy.
At a press conference held on Thursday and addressed by its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, the NDC said if Nana Addo believes that suicidal mission is the best way to attain political power, then it is better he relocates to Somalia, Iraq or possibly Afghanistan.
“What is surprising to us is that the leader of the NPP who claims to believe in the rule of law and the need to strengthen state institutions to discharge their duties within the context of the law is now calling on his party supporters to take the law into their own hands to cause mayhem by confronting security agencies in the performance of their duties…If Nana thinks suicide bombing is the best way to achieve his political ambition then we suggest he considers relocating to countries like Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq to pursue that ambition,” General Mosquito said.
The NDC Chief Scribe, who accused Nana Addo of inciting NPP activists to set ablaze the NDC’s office in Akyem Abuakwa during the 2000 General Elections, urged Nana Addo to withdraw and apologize unconditionally to Ghanaians.
“The NDC has no option but to call on Akuffo Addo to withdraw these unfortunate statements and apologize unconditionally to all Ghanaians, particularly his own party for putting them into such an awkward and embarrassing situation by these utterances”.

Ghana exit CHAN after Zimbabwe defeat
Ghana's home-based Black Stars are the second team likely to exit the 2011 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after losing 0-1 to Zimbabwe on Wednesday in Wad Madany.
The Stars joined Uganda in the trail of teams to bid farewell to the competition after CAPS United striker Archford Gutu's 70th minute goal separated the two sides.
The Black Stars were yet again off colour despite coach Herbert Addo revising his tactical approach with three new faces in his starting line-up= .. Addo handed starting roles to keeper Sammy Adjei, Edwin Gyimah and Mohammed Sabato and but for Adjei, the inclusion of others was hardly felt. The Stars lost out on the midfield in the early stages as Gyimah, a replacement for Abdul Basit failed to fill the big shoes of the Berekum Chelsea midfielder whilst Yaw Alexander and Sabato struggled to find their rhythm defence.
The Zimbabweans, who surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Stars in their previous meeting at the same stage in 2009, were in no mood for such stuffs and had the upper hand in the midfield as they dominated th= e first half.
After a barren first half, both teams resumed the second half strongly but it was the Zimbabweans who showed much urgency in their game. Coach Addo brought on Emmanuel Clottey and Obed Owusu in the second half, and their presence was very little in reviving the team's almost non-existent attack.
On 70 minutes, the determination of the Warriors paid off when Gutu Archford headed home a cross from the right flank from Norman Maroto for the only goal of the match.
Few minutes later, goalie Adjei denied the Zimbabweans another goal making a spectacular save of Marato's shot, after the latter had thorn th= e Ghanaian defence apart.
As the clock ticked, the Stars could barely trouble the Zimbabweans, who defended gallantly to keep their lead intact. Earlier, South Africa beat Niger 2-0 thanks to a brace by striker Myro= n Shongwe to qualify for the quarter finals.
The local Black Stars face Niger on Sunday, but the outcome of the match will serve only a academic purposes.
Line up: Ghana - Sammy Adjei, Godfred Saka, Emmanuel Ansong, Awudu Nafiu, John Ashong-Edwin Gyimah, Yaw Alexander Badolo, Mohammed Sabato/Emmanuel VClottey, Bismark Idan, Larbi Coomson, Gilbert Fiamenyo
Zimbabwe - Arubi Washington, Vheremu Daniel, Boriwondo David Cuthbert, Mapemba Gilbert, Maroto Norman, Chiutsa Charles , Meleka Elvis, Mudzingwa Erick, Mapfumo Brian, Gutu Archford, Ngodzo Zephania

Anas to be dragged to Court
For the third time, Anas’ credibility is being challenged concerning the authenticity of parts of his secret recordings.
First at the Elubo Boarder on cocoa smuggling; secondly, the Osu Children’s Home exposé and lately the Tema Port footage dubbed, ‘Enemies of the State’ intended to expose corrupt government officials and nation saboteurs. The controversy surrounding Anas’s investigations into issues of national concern has deepened as one of the companies allegedly cited as invading tax and duties on the Enemies of the State’ tape, Servistar Company has challenged the allegations.
The company is threatening to take legal action against him if he fails to retract and apologise for vilifying and maliciously attacking its reputation. The warning was contained in a letter sent to Anas by the Solicitors for Servistar Company, Blagoggee, Blacksword & Co, declaring their intension to seek legal redress for what they say is an unwarranted attack on their client’s company.
The footage, they contend portrays Servistar as a scheming entity and economic saboteurs who regularly evade payment of tax and duties and thus deny government the needed revenue for development. They have given Anas a 48-hour ultimatum to retract his atrocious lies and render an unconditional apology.
According to the letter sent to ANAS Armereyaw Anas by Blagoggee, Blacksword & Co., Servistar Company was captured and shown on the Tema Port Enemies of the State secret recordings. They contend that their client’s reputation has suffered irreparable damage due to the publication in the New Crusading Guide’s 3rd February 2011 edition with the banner headline ‘The Bizarre Tale of Servister, B5, Agro Delta Companies.’
The solicitors note that Anas reinforced his resolve to drag the company’s name into the mud by mentioning their client’s name as an example of a company uncovered at the port during his secret investigations when he granted an interview to TV3 on the same 3rd February 2011.
They assert that they find the allegations levelled against their client very serious and deeply offensive, indicating that neither their client, Servister nor its principals have ever connived or sought to connive with any person, persons or establishments to deliberately evade tax obligations and that contrary, Servister has dutifully paid its taxes over the years.
According to the letter, Anas’ false claims and publication has brought direct consequences to Servister’s personal and business reputation. “The company has been maligned, vilified, seriously damaged and have suffered considerable distress and embarrassment, “they stress.
The solicitors reiterate that Anas should retract forthwith all the libellous and slanderous publications against their client with the same prominence with which he put out the false publications and render unreserved apology within 48 hours.
In an unequivocal statement, the solicitors sound a warning note to Anas that if he fails to clear Servister’s image after the expiration of the 48 hours ultimatum, a swift and decisive action within the law would be instituted against him to salvage their hard won reputation.

In an unequivocal statement, the solicitors sound a warning note to Anas that if he fails to clear Servister’s image after the expiration of the 48 hours ultimatum, a swift and decisive action within the law would be instituted against him to salvage their hard won reputation.

Did gov't support Anas? - Kwetey says "no", Ablakwa says "yes"
The need for government’s Communication team to articulate issues in a clear and unambiguous voice has been brought to fore once again following the blatant contradictory statements by two leading officials in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the role of government in the recent undercover piece by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas of the New Crusading Guide.Anas’ latest investigative piece titled, “Enemies of the Nation”, tells a story about the endemic corruption that goes on daily at the Tema Port.
Posing as a clearing agent under the name “Oblitey Sowah”, alias “Koose” from “Tiger Shipping agency”, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, together with a team of agents, obtained secret video footage on the daily cases of bribery and corruption that greet any importer or businessperson who calls at the port. The resultant documentary is a power packed one and a half hour piece where men in uniform are seen taking bribes.
Surprisingly, officialdom is somehow falling over itself to explain the role of government in the whole caboodle.
The Enquirer newspaper in its Monday February 7 edition alleged, “the Finance Ministry quietly awarded a juicy contract to the Journalist with terms and reference which feeds into a quiet feud between that Ministry and the Ministry of Trades over Destination Inspection Companies”. According to the Paper, the feud between the two ministries started over disagreements about whether or not the Destination Inspection Companies were relevant, and who deserved to be awarded the contracts.
Interestingly, whiles Deputy Finance Minister, Fiifi Kwetey is strenuously denying the report that government sponsored Anas, his remarks seems to be at variance with that of his own government on the issue.
Fiifi Kwetey was dismissive of reports that sought to suggest that his sector financially supported Anas in carrying out his undercover operations, arguing that the Finance Ministry cannot sponsor someone to expose CEPs or the Ghana Revenue Authority, since both agencies falls directly under their watch.
“Finance Ministry did not pay a dime, not one penny, not one pesewa…You will notice that the comprehensive nature of this video is affecting everybody. So clearly, our focus must be on the national interest regardless of who is involved. Our focus must be on ensuring that we minimize the massive revenue hemorrhage that is taking place. Revenue that is critical for the transformation of our nation and for lifting our people out of poverty into taking us to where we need to be. As to some of these whole considerations being about warpath is irrelevant and petty,” he said in an interview on Citi FM’s Breakfast Show.
However, the Managing Editor of the Enquirer newspaper, Raymond Archer stood by the story and stated on the same platform; “I am telling you as a statement of fact that the investigation was sponsored by the Government, and that the Ministry of Finance was responsible for sponsorship of that investigation...There are people who are also raising ethical issues about whether a Journalist can be paid for editorial content or sponsored by a Government against whom he is investigating to conduct his work...As for what Mr. Fiifi Kwetey has said, I just want to say that the Enquirer story is true and we stand by it. And I am sure that in the coming few days, these issues will be sorted out,” he said.
Additionally, the Propaganda Secretary of the ruling NDC, Richard Quashigah, insisted that government through the Ministry of Finance sponsored Anas’ latest work which unraveled widespread corruption and bribery at the Tema Port.
He was speaking to Joy News in reaction to a press conference held by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the Enemies of the State footage is a clear indictment on Mills’ administration and confirms the fears that the government is sleeping on the job.
Mr. Quashigah, who accused the opposition NPP of tackling every issue with a mischievous mindset, opined that government’s sponsorship of the video is indicative of President Mills’ commitment to fight corruption.
“The NPP is only playing mischief with Anas’ exposé and ignorantly accusing President Mills of sleeping on the job without knowing government collaborated with Anas to do the video exposé. This is one of government ways of addressing the corruption menace,” he noted.
He described as unfortunate the NPP’s unquenchable thirst to politicize and criminalize the President Mills’ administration of corruption. To him, the NPP has neither the moral justification to comment on the corruption syndicate unearth at the Tema Port nor point accusing fingers at the Mills’ administration since corruption was more pervasive during the tenure of ex-President Kufuor.
“This (corruption) is a canker we all need to deal with it but the NPP is creating the impression that the NDC is not doing anything. It is amazing what the NPP is saying, considering where they are coming from, one would have thought they will be candid enough to discuss the issue devoid of mischief,” he added.
As if to confirm Quashigah’s position, government through an official statement signed by Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Information admitted that a state institution funded the ace investigator’s recent work including the exposure of cocoa smuggling and corruption at the Tema Harbour.
The statement, which hinted at several other strategies that had been deployed at the instance of President John Atta Mills in the fight against corruption and added "the President is determined to win this fight at all cost."
