Nite Of 1012 Laughs Was A DoubleBlast back

Yet again, the Dome of the
International Conference centre was
filled to capacity with numerous
expectant audience who had come
there with a common goal - to ‘laugh
out loud’ (lol). And indeed, their expectations were
met beyond the limit, to
commensurate their Ghc 50 standard
and Ghc 100 VIP cost per ticket.
Although a major political event, the
ruling party's Delegates Congress, had taken place on the same day and into
night of the ‘Nite of 1012 laughs', it
could not disrupt the laughs but rather
boosted it with jokes being made out
of the results which had come in just
before the show took off. Most of the patrons at this years’ Nite
of 1012 laughs, had their
expectations met with rib cracking
jokes from some of Nigeria’s finest
stand up comedians including Bash,
Owen Gee and the legendary Gordons.
Some Nigerian comedians who were
first timers in Ghana included Emeka
Smith and Elenu who also succeeded
in sending patrons home with tummy
aches they got from excessive laughter.
Ghana’s only ‘swag-on papa’ (Funny
Face) who was the co-MC for the night
was at his best ones again, bursting
onto the stage with a new song he has
recorded with ‘African Girls’ hit maker Castro.
Funny Face, who is also well known
for creating jokes on the spare of the
moment, could not help but put KOD
(Kofi Okyere Darko) –radio presenter
turned ‘tailor’ on the spot, praising and teasing him (KOD) for his (Funny
Face)’ outfit which by the way looked
quite good.
He also did not leave out striker
Asamoah Gyan, when he told him
“you are here laughing, penalty is coming”.
This comment generated a roof
ripping laughter from the audience
since almost every one there could
identify with what Funny Face meant.
The night could not have been complete without a stint of good music
to complement the jokes.
Tunes from sensational Efya seemed
to have come at the right time to relax
the audience who had been laughing
non-stop from the beginning of the programme.
Her hit song ‘little things’ got quite a
number of patrons singing along right
from the beginning to the end of the
song.
Efya later joined Ghana’s fastest rapper Sarkodie to perform ‘I’m in
love with you’, an outstanding
collaboration which many music
lovers have tipped to win ‘Best
Collaboration for the year 2011’ at the
next Ghana Music Awards, but that is certainly contentious and can be
shelved for another day.
The duo looked splendid on stage
because not only did they sing so well
but also showed a lot of emotions
which the song naturally exudes. Sarkodie, after being ‘forgiven’ by
Efya, took the show to another level,
dropping his latest hit song which has
come to be known as ‘azonto',
althouhg the song is originally titled
'You Go Kill me'. At this point, the audience were on
their feet dancing and singing along,
with some of them attempting to do
the ‘azonto’ dance moves.
Legendary Hi-life musician Ben Brako
also spiced up the musical bit of the show with some of his great songs
including ‘Baya’.
The star studded event had a number
of footballers filling the VIP section of
the auditorium.
The likes of Asamoah Gyan and brother Barfuor were seen every now
and then laughing at the several jokes
which kept coming from the main
stage.
Ghana’s John Paintsil, Togolese
international Adebayor and actor John Dumelo came in moments to the
end of the show but also had a few
laughs before the show ended.
At the end, organizers promised a
bigger and better show at the latter
part of the year which would be the ‘Nite of 1013 laughs’ and patrons
cannot wait for that time.
