More than 800 members of staff of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will own houses before their retirement under a housing project launched in Accra, yesterday.
Under the project, workers of the GRA who own land in Prampram, Oyibi, Kasoa, Gomoa Nyanyano, Obakrowa and Adjin Kotoku will have houses built for them on the lands to be paid for in ten years with their contributions to be deducted at source.
Workers of the GRA who have started their own buildings but could not complete them due to lack of funds will also be assisted to complete them.
The project is being initiated by the Public Services Workers Union ((PSWU) of the GRA in collaboration with the ACEC Investments Limited and the United Pensions Trustees (UPT).

United Pension Trustees Limited, therefore, aims to ensure that all members of pension and provident funds, under its trusteeship, acquire a home over their working life, as part of their retirement preparation.
In an address delivered on his behalf at the launch, the Minister for Finance, Mr Seth Terkper, urged workers of GRA to work harder to raise more revenue for development.
The Secretary-General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC), Mr Kofi Asamoah, in his remarks, called on the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to re-activate its housing project to alleviate the housing problem of workers.
Mr George Blankson, Commissioner-General of the GRA, noted that home ownership was a significant part of pension preparation.
Mr Blankson said the PSWU was poised to fill a vacuum in Ghana's housing delivery agenda and make significant contribution to productivity and revenue generation as a result.
He commended the Union for its vision, focus and foresight for the initiative and also for ensuring labour stability within the GRA.
The Chairman and Managing Director of ACEC Investments Limited, Col. (Rtd) Raj Kalra, noted that the use of technology and innovative housing designs made life more comfortable, secure and highly cost-effective.
Mr Kalra, therefore, pledged the commitment of ACEC Investments Limited to providing best services during construction and post-construction, using technology and innovation.
