The nuclear talks with the P5+1
-- that's France, Britain, Russia, China, the United States and Germany
-- this past week in Geneva left much to be desired for Iran in terms of
final outcomes. The joint action plan calls on Iran to take steps to
verify the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. In return, it
receives limited sanctions relief until a comprehensive solution within
the year takes shape.

Statement by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, at a meeting with the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice and its Anti-Corruption Partners Flagstaff House.
I am happy to have this opportunity to speak candidly on the issue of
corruption and the way it attempts to pervade every layer of our
society, from the political to the personal.  Corruption takes an
enormous toll on the ability of a government to function effectively, on
the hopes and dreams of individual citizens, and, ultimately, on the
morale of an entire nation.

We must ‘run things’ but not ‘make things run we in Ghana- Papa Kwesi Nduom
Popular Ghanaian music has from time to time, called on us to "run, run
something" and "run things" but not "make things run we". We will do
very well to follow that advice. All of us, workers of all types;
pastors, priests and preachers, students, journalists, politicians and
professionals from all walks of life.

Kofi Annan writes about why intervention by the United Nations has variously failed and succeeded.
In January 1994, General Roméo Dallaire, commanding United Nations
forces in Rwanda, sent the U.N. Department of Peacekeeping Operations
(DPKO), of which Kofi Annan was then deputy head, a reliable informant’s
warning of imminent genocide; Dallaire concluded, “Peux ce que veux.
Allons-y.” — “We can do whatever we want. Let’s go”, meaning all options
were open to the U.N. Yet in the next 100 days, 800,000 people were
slaughtered, in probably the single greatest act of genocide since the
Second World War.
