Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku: I have what it takes to win power in 2016.

A presidential candidate aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, has urged delegates of the party to give him the chance to exhibit his leadership qualities to transform the fortunes of the party in the 2016 polls.

“I have what it takes to win political power for the NPP,” he told the Ashanti regional constituency chairmen of the NPP at their monthly meeting last Saturday.

According to Dr Apraku, winning political power was the key business of the NPP at the moment, and, therefore, stressed the need for delegates to support candidates who have the requisite skills and strategy to achieve the objective of wresting power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He reminded the constituency chairmen that wresting power from the ruling NDC required that the NPP members worked extra hard with dedication and commitment.

He said it also required that all members of the NPP respected all shades of opinion and refrained from insults, petty squabbles and character assassination which, he said, could be a bad sign for a party which believed in democracy and the rule of law.

In his view, competition of ideas was the hallmark of the party, and, therefore, called on members of the party not to restrict anybody from contesting the flag-bearer position.

Dr Apraku took the opportunity to commend the composition of the new national executive, and expressed the optimism that they could make a positive impact on the 2016 polls.

He, however, said slogans gaining currency within NPP circles that it had won the 2016 elections in advance was a mere political talk or empty platitude because there was more work to be done, especially at the grass roots where the election results were determined.

Dr Apraku also took the chairmen through how from the 2008 elections, the party’s electoral fortune had been dwindling.

“That alone was an indication for delegates of the party to elect a leader who could break that phenomenon,” he stated.

Mr Yaw Amankwa, a former Regional Chairman of the party who was at the meeting, noted that nobody should sound like an ostrich because there was a lot of work to be done, and called on the chairmen not to relent in their efforts but to adopt more pragmatic and meaningful strategies to ensure a resounding victory for the party in 2016.

He stressed that it was only hard work that could enable the party to wrest power from the NDC.
