Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted the Christian Council’s assertions on indiscipline in mission schools.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted the Christian Council’s assertions that mission schools are not thriving under its watch.

The Christian Council in a statement asked government to hand over all mission schools to the churches to ensure improved performance and discipline.

The council stated that there has been a “continuous decline in the provision of quality education and moral formation among students since government took over the management of mission schools in the country.”

The council accused the GES of failing to maintain high academic performance and discipline in the schools.

But in response, the Deputy Director General of the GES, Stephen Adu stated that mission schools are part of the society and therefore, when it comes to discipline, a comparison must be made between “the discipline level in the country and the discipline level in the schools.”

He noted that the lack of discipline in both mission and non-mission schools is a societal problem which needs to be tackled at that level and therefore, GES cannot be blamed for the low level of discipline currently in mission schools.

Mr. Adu suggested a round table discussion to trash out the matter and find a common ground between the GES and the Christian Council.

Meanwhile, some Members of Parliament have also urged government to hand over all mission schools to its original owners for proper supervision and management.
