Position Vacant: Flagbearer for NPP 2016.

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey says the position of presidential candidate in the party is vacant and is open to anyone in 2016.
According to him, “as soon as the election of 2012 finished with the concession speech by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo we no longer had a flagbearer…’’
Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said that situation created an immediate vacuum for the flagbearer position.
Speaking in an interview about who the party’s flagbearer will be for the 2016 general elections, the NPP’s National Chairman said there are a number of people who would like to be the party’s presidential candidate for the next elections.

‘’… at the end of the day there is no law that prevents, there is no article within our [NPP] constitution that forbids people from offering themselves or proposing others for the position.’’

He, however, cautioned party members to desist from ‘lambasting’ an opponent in order to advance their cause.

“Please if you are proposing and you are advocating for us to support Mr. A or B, stick to their strengths, and don’t insult your opponents…,” he warned.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said “let’s limit our competition to advancing the cause of those we want to support instead of attacking anybody who is opposed to our candidate.’’

Factions in the New Patriotic Party have started lobbying and campaigning to get their candidate to lead the party in the 2016 election.
