Police kills five armed robbers in shoot-out

Accra, Nov. 5, GNA - The Ghana Police Service, on Friday shot five armed robbers dead who were on a mission to rob a house at Adjiriganor in East Legon.

Deputy Commissioner Of Police (DCOP) Rose Bio-Atinga, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, who made this known at a press conference in Accra, said the police cordoned off the area following a tip off from the public.

DCOP Bio-Atinga said at about 1000 hours, six armed robbers entered the house and ordered every one to lie down while firing warning shoots. The Regional Commander said the police rushed to the scene and exchanged fire with the robbers.

DCOP Bio-Atinga said three of the robbers were shot dead instantly while three escaped and took cover in a nearby kiosk.

She said the owner of the kiosk who attempted to resist the armed robbers was shot dead and the body had since been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary.

DCOP Bio-Atinga, said the police received reinforcement and pursue the robbers to their hideout, leading to the killing of two others while one was arrested and is currently in police custody.

She said incidentally the house was robbed twice last year and urged the public to be alert and report suspected case of armed robbery to the police.

The Regional Commander said the police are up to the task and would do anything possible to protect lives and property.
